I have owned a 2016 Subaru Outback for a month now, and overall, I’ve had a positive experience with it. Here are some key points that I think will be helpful for others considering this vehicle: All-Wheel Drive: The Outback’s standard all-wheel drive is a huge advantage, especially if you live in an area with harsh weather or if you enjoy outdoor activities like hiking or skiing. It provides great traction and stability on wet or snowy roads. Spacious and Comfortable Interior: The cabin is roomy, with plenty of space for both passengers and cargo. The rear seats are comfortable, and the large cargo area makes it ideal for road trips or hauling gear. The seats are also supportive, even on longer drives. Fuel Efficiency: For an all-wheel-drive vehicle, the Outback is relatively fuel-efficient. I’ve gotten around 25-30 mpg, which is excellent for its class. Safety Features: Subaru's EyeSight Driver Assist Technology is a standout. Features like adaptive cruise control, pre-collision braking, and lane departure warning make the car feel very safe and offer peace of mind, especially on long drives. Reliability: The Outback has been dependable, with no major issues so far. It's known for being a durable vehicle that can last for many years if well maintained. In conclusion, if you're looking for a rugged, reliable vehicle with plenty of space, the Subaru Outback is a great option. Just be aware of its slightly dated tech and underwhelming performance if you plan to use it for more demanding tasks.

There are so many safety features, which is very important to me. Not just safety features but so many features in general. In my opinion, the car is economical. Just above half a tank got me from Christchurch to Dunedin and a week on I am just under half a tank. There's a feature in the car that turns the car off when it's idle at lights, stop signs ect. My car is definitely petrol. It's just one of the many features this car has and possibly why the vehicle takes a while to chew through the gas.

This is our second Outback and we love them. Getting used to the eyesight features and smaller engine as our last one was a 3.0 litre. But the fuel economy is much better in the newer 2.4 engine., which is a big bonus.

I was a bit apprehensive about buying a vehicle with CVT, but with the Outback I don't even notice. It drives very nicely and the safety features are great.

My previous car was the 2010 version which was quite similar in many ways (size, driving characteristics etc.). This new one has great safety features and the adaptive cruise control is very good and makes open road driving in particular easier / less fatiguing. This car is the premium model and the interior and appointments are very nice. The car drives very well, quite firm suspension but not uncomfortable, very little body roll etc, great handling for an SUV type vehicle - which ultimately is why I love outbacks. Drives like a car (better than a lot of cars IMO) - can handle light off road duties very well at the same time. Loving my new Outback!

As a mechanical engineer, I required a reliable, comfortable vehicle that will last through our retirement, & one that will respond well to regular maintenance without the need for ongoing costly repairs. The Subaru Outback ticks all the boxes. The engine has the necessary power & acceleration when required (*95 octane fuel provides improved performance over 91 [regular] octane, & better mileage/economy, although the service manual recommends '91 octane or above'... suit yourself on that score, I use what's best for the engine). The Subaru boxer engine ticks over very smoothly & the ride is comfortable & pleasantly quiet. All round vision is excellent in addition to a rear-view camera & 'eyesight' mode. Plenty of safety features & added extras: tinted windows, etc. There are buttons & switches I might never use, but who knows? The highly acclaimed Subaru AWD, in addition to the 'X-mode' function & a high wheelbase will no doubt prove its worth off-road/on camping trips/etc (take a look at online video reviews to see what these vehicles are capable of handling). Highway driving is impressive, with the vehicle responding nicely when cornering & handling NZ's notoriously pitted & potholed roads & negotiating the endless roadworks (which almost qualifies as 'off-road' driving at times!). Plenty of space in front & back, no rear hatch floor 'lip' to lift over, various tie-down points & the rear seats fold flat for easy storage. Has a full-size spare wheel instead of a Toytown 'space-saver' (neatly stowed under the rear floor along with the wheel-brace, etc). Nice entertainment system, plus various gadgets. Plenty of on-board storage, lots of arm, leg & head room. The same/similar make & model have been recommended by family & friends in the USA... apparently these vehicles perform well in the winter conditions of the northern & midwestern States. A nice looking vehicle, too. We're very happy with our choice & purchase.
